01

Use one consumption denominator

Paper-mill quotations may report supplied product per tonne of dry fibre, active polymer per tonne of paper or prepared-solution flow. These are not interchangeable. Agree the production and moisture basis, measurement interval and treatment of broke before ranking commercial offers.

Keep the original feed and production measurements beside the normalized result. A lower pump setting during a lighter production load is not evidence of improved chemical efficiency. Confirm product active fraction or the applicable assay basis with the supplier rather than treating every powder or liquid specification as the same active content.

02

Calculate the chemical component explicitly

When D is active addition in kilograms per agreed tonne, P is delivered price per kilogram of supplied product and a is confirmed active mass fraction, polymer cost is D × P ÷ a per agreed tonne. Record currency, destination, package net mass and included charges with the quotation.

For arithmetic illustration only, D = 0.5, P = 3 currency units and a = 0.9 give about 1.67 currency units per tonne. These numbers are not recommended dosage, product assay or a market price. Do not apply the result to a different fibre or paper denominator without an appropriate conversion.

03

Count only qualified production benefits

Compare consumption after the candidate meets retention, drainage, formation and the relevant sheet-quality gates. Track saleable output, breaks and off-grade material over matched periods. A temporary retention peak is not a demonstrated reduction in cost per tonne of accepted paper.

Keep changes in starch, coagulant, microparticle, filler or other additives visible. Include make-down and handling costs when measured and relevant. Do not credit assumed fibre substitution, drying savings or speed increases before the mill has verified them under acceptable paper quality and operating conditions.

04

Keep technical ranking ahead of price ranking

Request a quotation for the code and preparation route actually demonstrated. Separate chemical delivery from trial support, dosing equipment and any required modification. A low product price can become a different offer when its apparent benefit depends on unpriced equipment or another supplier's additional chemistry.

Retain the matched production, laboratory and usage records with the comparison. Repeat close results when normal variation could reverse the ranking. The preferred purchase is a documented operating and commercial combination, not the cheapest kilogram assigned optimistic performance outside its qualified furnish window.

05

Connect qualification to the order

Keep the related operating qualification with the purchase record. Further checks include Dual Retention System Quotes: Replace One Component Without Losing the Baseline and How Much PAM Should a Paper-Machine Trial Order Include?.

Request coded material through the papermaking PAM sample and quotation brief. Include paper grade, furnish, additive sequence, preparation limits, acceptance method, quantity and destination. Separate demonstrated results from conditions still awaiting a trial.
