Identify exactly what the supplier is replacing
A dual-system quotation should name the proposed PAM component and every other chemical that remains in service. Record fixative, cationic polymer, anionic component or microparticle, starch and sizing with their addition points. A lower price for one component is not a quotation for an equivalent complete retention program.
Ask whether the offer assumes changes in the other products or their consumption. Keep those changes separate from the first controlled comparison. A candidate may be useful as part of a redesigned system without being a direct replacement for the currently approved component.
Reproduce sequence and intermediate shear
Preserve stock consistency, dilution, contact time and the relevant shear stages between additions. Prepare every component according to its identified requirements. A laboratory mix that adds all products together cannot represent a system whose response depends on adsorption, disruption and subsequent reflocculation.
Use the incumbent system as the reference and change one component initially. Document unavoidable differences and repeated points. If the candidate requires another sequence, treat that as a separate qualification condition with a practical machine implementation plan rather than quietly improving its laboratory setup.
Read the whole program response
Measure total and ash retention, drainage, white-water solids, formation and grade-critical properties after the appropriate sequence. Include machine cleanliness and stability in field confirmation. A reduced dose of the replaced PAM does not prove a better program if the later component rises substantially or paper quality deteriorates.
Record the full chemical usage and any additional preparation or control burden. Price only the benefits that the mill actually demonstrates. Avoid turning a high-retention bench result into a claim of higher production or lower drying cost without the corresponding machine and quality evidence.
Keep approval tied to the chemical architecture
Request coded sample identity, current documents, preparation guidance and a trial quantity for the specific replacement scope. Record which existing components and operating ranges formed part of acceptance. A successful result with one microparticle or fixative should not automatically authorize every other combination.
Define change notification and review after modifications to partner chemicals, furnish or addition points. Keep the accepted system record with the quotation and receiving checks. This protects a legitimate component purchase from becoming an undocumented whole-system substitution.
Connect qualification to the order
Keep the related operating qualification with the purchase record. Further checks include CPAM for a Closed-Water Paper Machine: Qualify the Conductivity Window and Changing a Paper PAM Supplier: Plan the Crossover Around Grade and Loop Stability.
Request coded material through the papermaking PAM sample and quotation brief. Include paper grade, furnish, additive sequence, preparation limits, acceptance method, quantity and destination. Separate demonstrated results from conditions still awaiting a trial.
