Define a tissue-specific objective
A retention-aid proposal for tissue should state what the mill needs to improve and which finished-product qualities must be preserved. Record the fibre blend, fines, broke, process-water condition and other additives. Do not transfer a highly filled printing-paper program simply because both machines use CPAM.
Distinguish retention and drainage from dry-strength or wet-strength duties. Each has its own product identity and acceptance logic. A supplier's recommendation should explain the intended function without implying that one generic PAM satisfies every tissue performance requirement.
Reproduce the actual preparation and forming context
Screen a small coded set using current stock, realistic dilution, contact and relevant shear. Keep the incumbent as a reference and compare on a confirmed active basis. Record the method and the limitations of laboratory forming rather than treating a quiet beaker floc as a complete machine result.
Check a representative range of fines and process-water condition. A preparation method that the unit cannot sustain needs separate qualification. If another wet-end additive must change, keep that change visible so the supplier's polymer is not credited with a combined system effect that its quoted price excludes.
Release against the full tissue quality set
Pair white-water solids, retention and drainage with sheet uniformity and the mill's chosen softness, absorbency and strength measures. State the relevant conditioning and test procedures. A higher retention reading does not justify a finished sheet that fails the customer's requirements.
Confirm the shortlist on the installed machine using agreed stable periods, sampling and stop criteria. Include runnability and off-grade observations where relevant. Do not assume that improved laboratory water release directly creates a production or energy saving without the corresponding machine evidence.
Request a quality-bounded trial supply
Provide the tissue grade, furnish, operating limitation, required measurements and preparation capacity with the RFQ. Ask for a documented candidate code and enough material for baseline and repeated points. Keep packaging and delivery needs separate from claims about the product's suitability.
Preserve the accepted quality and furnish window with sample, production-lot and quotation records. Revisit qualification after material furnish or functional-additive changes. Routine supply should reproduce the demonstrated tissue balance rather than carry an unrestricted claim of suitability for every tissue grade.
Connect qualification to the order
Keep the related operating qualification with the purchase record. Further checks include Cationic PAM Retention Aid: Write a Furnish-Based Purchase Specification and Cationic or Amphoteric PAM Dry-Strength Offers: Compare on the Actual Furnish.
Request coded material through the papermaking PAM sample and quotation brief. Include paper grade, furnish, additive sequence, preparation limits, acceptance method, quantity and destination. Separate demonstrated results from conditions still awaiting a trial.
